FC Barcelona are set to add a fourth element to their squad this summer, according to several reports from Catalonia.
Ilkay Gundogan, Oriol Romeu and Inigo Martinez arrived in the summer, while Brazilian striker Vitor Roque has also been signed but is not expected to arrive until January 2024 at the earliest.
The Blaugrana have set their sights on a second Manchester City player to solve their right-back problem, Joao Cancelo, and several outlets claim a deal is imminent. The Athletic claim that Barcelona and City are finalizing a deal for Cancelo to leave on loan with a €30m option to buy next summer.
At the same time, Sport confirms this information, saying that the agreement will be formalized this week. FC Barcelona intend to present Cancelo from this Friday, but do not plan to have him available against Villarreal this weekend.
FC Barcelona’s primary aim is to register Cancelo, Marcos Alonso and Inaki Pena before the transfer deadline, suggesting that any further deals are ruled out for this summer except for a big departure.
Sergino Dest has left on loan, while Clement Lenglet seems to be following suit, but it looks like Barcelona need these departures to register other players. There have been talks of Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix joining the club on loan, but at this rate it seems unlikely, at least on the terms Atletico are demanding.
