When Spain crowned the Women’s World Cup in Australia on Sunday, the president of the Spanish federation, Luis Rubiales, kissed on the mouth Jennifer Hermoso, one of the star players of the Furia. The scandal was immediate, some denouncing this forced kiss as a sexual assault.

Spain’s very first crowning in the history of the Women’s World Cup, Sunday in Sydney, after a 1-0 victory against England, is marred by a sacred controversy. On the Fifa podium for the trophy presentation, the president of the Spanish federation Luis Rubiales, completely unleashed, warmly embraced Jennifer Hermoso, the top scorer in the history of the Women’s Seleccion, before kissing her on the mouth .

The astonishing images of this kiss in full live quickly caused a scandal in Spain and in particular on social networks, where one directly evoked a ” sexual assault from Rubiales, who, while he may be close to Hermoso (who has more than 100 caps at 33), clearly took his head in his hands to kiss him. An absolutely inappropriate gesture.

Hermoso did not like

In the era of social networks, the controversy continued in the locker room of the new world champions. When asked live on Instagram, Hermoso made it clear that she didn’t like the kiss. She is obviously not in a relationship with Rubiales. The latter then went down to the locker room and, presenting himself alongside Hermoso, said in a joking tone that he was going to marry the player who passed through PSG in 2017-2018.

Luis Rubiales, at the head of the Spanish federation since 2018, already has a very bad image across the Pyrenees, since he was accused, in November 2022, by his uncle and former chief of staff, of having invited 8 or 10 girls to a work meeting in a chalet, at the expense of the federation. The RFEF had denied the information given by the daily El Mundo.
