Last week, Real Madrid received the sad news that Thibaut Courtois suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury after being carried off on a stretcher during a training session.
The Belgian keeper was Real Madrid’s undisputed number one but it’s now almost certain he’ll miss the entire 2023-24 season. The same goes for Eder Militao, who suffered a similar injury in Saturday’s win over Athletic Club.
Real Madrid have provided an update on Courtois’ medical situation. In an official statement, Merengue leaders confirmed that he underwent successful surgery on Thursday and that his recovery plan would begin in the coming days.
Courtois will be a big absentee for Real Madrid this season as he has become one of their key players in recent years. Kepa Arrizabalaga has been loaned out by Chelsea to become the new number one, but the Spain international has a lot on his plate.
