At the end of last season, Karim Benzema ended his illustrious career at Real Madrid after 14 years, to join Saudi club Al-Ittihad.

In this summer’s transfer deal, Benzema still hasn’t been replaced by Florentino Perez, which means Carlo Ancelotti has changed his tactics for the new season, adopting a diamond-shaped 4-4-2 system.

Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo are therefore the only attackers, and the latter is ready to flourish in this role, as he told Globo Sports.

Every day I feel more like a protagonist and I haven’t shown much of what I can give. Every season I will have more pressure and more importance, that’s what I want and what I’m looking for. I understand the importance of playing for the biggest club in the world. People expect something different from me. I know how much I have to prepare to be well and meet what they expect of me.

Rodrygo took over last season when Benzema was unavailable due to injury and fitness issues, and Real Madrid hope that will be the case again now that the Frenchman has left the club for good.
