Stade Rennais took the lead in Ligue 1 by clearly winning against Metz this Sunday (5-1).
We will certainly have to reckon with Stade Rennais this season. Consistent in its summer market – with the arrivals in particular of Enzo Le Fée and Ludovic Blas, pending the acquired landing of Nemanja Matic – the Breton club did not miss its league debut this Sunday. For its first at Roazhon Park, Rennes clearly won (5-1).
However, the promoted Messin did not deserve it, showing enough response to complete the first act with a score of parity. Within 30 seconds of Kalimuendo’s opener (1-0, 20e), Maziz had indeed equalized (1-1, 21e). Not illogical given these initial 45 minutes. On returning from the locker room, however, the Rennais frankly accelerated the pace.

Gouiri first diverted a good recovery from Bourigeaud (2-1, 52e), then Doku probably signed his farewell to the club by splitting with a victorious reflex kick in the opposing area (3-1, 67e). Launched into battle at the 84e minute, the young Salah, he still found the time to score a double (4-1, 87e then 5-1, 90e+4) to close the Breton festival of the day. Here is Stade Rennais at the controls of Ligue 1 while waiting for the final match of this inaugural lifting between Strasbourg and Lyon.
