It’s the bomb of the day in Italy. This Sunday afternoon, the Italian Football Federation announced in a statement that Roberto Mancini had resigned as Italy coach. The name of the new coach will be known within the next few days.
It is a surprise that has just fallen on Italy. In office since on the bench of the Nazionale since May 14, 2018, Roberto Mancini is ending his role as coach of the Italian selection. The 58-year-old coach has not announced the reasons for his surprise departure.
European champion in the summer of 2021 against England, the former Manchester City coach therefore leaves his post a few months before Euro 2024 where he would have put his title on the line.
Since his debut on the Italian bench he has had a more than correct record with a total of 39 wins, 13 draws and 9 defeats.
The black point of his 5-year term remains the non-qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The Squadra Azzurra had lost in the play-offs against North Macedonia.
