This Sunday, the Italian Football Federation announced in a press release the resignation of Roberto Mancini from his post as coach. The Italian technician who took the reins of the selection in 2018 ends his mandate 5 years after having a European Cup in his list.

The body announced in this press release that the name of the next coach will be known within a few days. The Sky Italia media put forward two names which would be the favorites of the various decision-makers. Indeed, Luciano Spaletti and Antonio Conte would be the two main candidates to take the lead in the selection.

Without a club since leaving Naples at the end of the 2022-2023 financial year, Luciano is a credible candidate to take over the Italian selection. His style of play would be in line with the ideas of Roberto Mancini over his last 5 years. He could breathe new life into this selection, which will be expected at the turn in 2024.

Regarding Antonio Conte, this would be a rather surprising comeback, he who already led the Nazionale from 2014 to 2016. Free since his ousting from Tottenham last March, the Italian is looking for a new base. A return to Italy? A club a selection? It’s still blurry. But what is certain is that the Italian Federation has coached his name on its list…
