On Saturday, the long-awaited transfer of Ousmane Dembele from FC Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain was finally finalized.
The 26-year-old has signed a five-year deal worth €50.4m.
PSG activated Dembele’s release clause late last month, with the player himself also agreeing to personal terms at the time. However, the deal was blocked by Barcelona, who were negotiating with the Frenchman’s agent over their respective salary splits.
A 50/50 deal, which would net both sides €25m, had been announced but Barcelona believed they were entitled to more, hence the delay. However, according to Sportlast season’s LaLiga champions received €35.4m, with the remaining €15m going to Dembele and his representative.
Given the circumstances, this is the best possible transaction for FC Barcelona. He can now use those funds to register existing players and sign new ones, with a right-back being one of the latter’s priorities.
