FC Barcelona are getting closer to their goal of recruiting Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo.
The Catalan giants have been working on a deal for Cancelo since the start of July but the La Liga giants needed to sell players before making a bid.
French star Ousmane Dembele has thus joined Paris Saint-Germain and Franck Kessie has joined the growing exodus of players to Saudi Arabia.
This freed up funds and salary wiggle room which allowed Cancelo to join Spain.
The Portugal international remains on the sidelines of City’s plans for this season, having been loaned out to Bayern Munich in 2023.
According to information from the journalist of Report Matteo Moretto, Barcelona are close to agreeing a loan deal for Cancelo with City ready to let him go.
However, Moretto’s update claims City will not allow Barcelona to sign Bernardo Silva, should Cancelo complete a transfer, with Ilkay Gundogan already swapping Manchester for Barcelona in the summer.
