He is one of Paris Saint-Germain’s flagship recruits this summer. Manuel Ugarte arrived at the very beginning of the summer transfer window from Sporting Portugal for the sum of 60 million euros. The Uruguayan midfielder who plays in front of the defense arrives in the French capital with the aim of giving a new dynamic to the Parisian midfield.
Before joining the French team, Manuel Ugarte asked himself several questions about the club and also asked some advice from former club players, including a legend. Indeed, during his interview with the newspaper l’Équipe, the former Sporting player announced that he had discussions with Edinson Cavani.
The second top scorer in the history of the red and blue convinced his younger brother to join the French capital. “We had talked about PSG with Edi, but well before contact with the club. He told me about the relationship he had with his partners, the atmosphere here. He told me it’s an incredible city, a great club where there is everything. When I arrived I realized how much he is loved here,” he confessed.
A true defensive midfielder, Manuel Ugarte will have the heavy task of making Thiago Motta forget who has struggled to be replaced since his retirement during the 2017-2018 season. He also mentioned the trace that the Italian-Brazilian left within the club. “I was told about it. I knew what he had done and now that I’m here, I realize the mark left by Motta in Paris. I think it’s a wonderful responsibility. But I don’t want to put pressure on myself, even if this responsibility exists and I will assume it. I hope to be able to find my place and win the affection of supporters like him. »
The defensive midfielder will get straight to the heart of the matter this Saturday during the first day of Ligue 1 against FC Lorient at the Parc des Princes.
