Women’s World Cup, the stat that will silence the critics

England’s Chloe Kelly unleashed a record-breaking strike in the World Cup Round of 16.

Who said that women’s football lacked physical qualities? Chloe Kelly proved on Monday that women can (also) kick a ball very hard.

During the penalty shootout between England and Nigeria, the Manchester City player did not ask the slightest question. She sent an overpowered shot that deceived the Nigerian goalkeeper, and offered qualification to her team.

Chloe Kelly’s strike was flashed at 111 km/h. For context, it’s more than Said Benrahma’s shot with West Ham against Crystal Palace. Why compare to this goal? Because he received the Premier League’s ‘fastest’ goal trophy last season, with a speed of 107 km/h.

We have to see if the measuring elements are the same, and therefore take a few tweezers, but Chloe Kelly would therefore have hit harder than Benrahma, Erling Haaland or Kevin de Bruyne on each of their goals in the Premier League last season.
