Two days before the start of the season, Real Madrid lost their essential goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, victim of a tear in one of the cruciate ligaments of the knee.
After Karim Benzema, who left for Saudi Arabia, Real Madrid are losing their immense goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian goalkeeper was injured in training on Thursday, and the club quickly announced a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in the left knee (the other cruciate ligament is called the posterior cruciate ligament).
Courtois will be operated on in the coming days and will be unavailable for many months. As Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano points out, the Merengues are already looking for a new goalkeeper, two days before the first La Liga match against Bilbao on Saturday (9:30 p.m.). Number 2 Andriy Lunin was unconvincing during his appearances in the white tunic.
While Real Madrid do not seem to want to buy a striker this summer (to welcome Mbappé free in a year), the leaders will have a lot of trouble compensating for the absence of Courtois, a goalkeeper at the exceptional level for many seasons and which was decisive during the coronation in the Champions League in 2022.
