It’s now official, Yann Sommer is Inter Milan’s new No. 1 goalkeeper. André Onana left for around 50 M€ at Manchester United, the Nerazzurri absolutely had to replace the Cameroonian, author of an excellent season last year. The Swiss porter was therefore chosen, despite strong competition with Anatoliy Trubin, Hugo Lloris and even Yassine Bounou. Freshly landed in Italy, Yann Sommer delivered his first words under his new tunic. “Inter is a huge club at national and international level, a club with a great tradition. Playing for such an important team is a new challenge for me and for my career. I can’t wait to play at San Siro, to enjoy the people, the atmosphere and Milan. I am happy to be here»he describes.

The ex-Bayern goalkeeper adds: “I don’t have a lot of expectations. I just want to play, compete with other players, other strikers and play for Inter. Naturally with the hope of winning something. Everything will be new and I can’t wait to get started. My strong point ? I’m a very explosive goalkeeper, I try to be brave and help the team, even when playing with my feet. I think the latter is one of my best qualities. Inzaghi likes to build from behind, I’ve noticed that over the years, and that’s my style too. I like being an option for the team, I like playing against opponents who put pressure on me. I try to give confidence, to feel calm. At 34, Yann Sommer may not represent the future of Inter Milan, but he will undoubtedly be of great service in the short term. It remains to be seen whether he will manage to make André Onana forget.
