Chelsea is under investigation over payments to offshore companies, according to our colleagues at Times. The Premier League is looking into the matter after the new owners reported to the club a number of financial deals made during the era of Roman Abramovich. The investigation comes after Chelsea’s new owners reported their own club to the FA, Premier League and UEFA over a number of financial deals made between 2012 and 2019 which they discovered at the during the redemption process.
Along with payments to offshore companies, it would appear that at least one payment to a player’s family is also coming under scrutiny. Although all of these offenses were committed during the tenure of the Blues’ former owner, the English club, which was bought by the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital consortium for just under 3 billion euros last year, could face sanctions from the Premier League. The English media also specifies that it was pushing to be several heavy fines as well as a withdrawal of points.
