It seemed certain that Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga would leave the club this summer, but the tide has started to turn.
As the transfer window enters its second half, Celta have received a first offer for Gabri Veiga.
Many Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool, have been linked with Veiga, but none of them have made any offers as their efforts have been focused elsewhere.
Reports from Galicia suggest Celta could keep him this summer, but Fabrizio Romano reports that Napoli have made a €30m offer for Veiga. The 21-year-old won’t join Serie A just yet as Celta declined the offer.
Celta have made it clear that they want their full €40m release clause to part ways with him, although they could negotiate part of that amount.
Veiga is a key player in the Celta transfer market. Veiga brings additional quality to the midfield, but the money from a deal would allow Rafael Benitez to invest in several areas of the squad. A deal late in the transfer window could be the least useful for Celta.
