While some clubs around the world are considered “retirement homes”, Real Madrid does not fall into this category.
Florentino Perez often hunts players before they hang up their boots, as was the case for Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo and more recently Karim Benzema, who joined Al-Ittihad at the start of the summer.
Despite this, Thibaut Courtois told TLN-TV that he didn’t want to leave Real Madrid before the end of his career.
“I am very happy at Real Madrid. My wish would be to retire here. I will take things year by year and make sure to take care of myself (to last as long as possible).
“Fortunately, goalkeepers can last a long time in football. Luka Modric is 37 years old and he is still active, so hopefully I too can play for a long time.
Courtois is only 31, so he still has many years left in his career. He’s also been one of Real Madrid’s best goalkeepers in recent history, so there’s no immediate desire to transfer him, and rightly so.
