Spain thrashes Switzerland to advance to quarters

La Roja made short work of Switzerland (5-1) in the round of 16 of the Women’s World Cup.

Spain made short work of Switzerland (5-1) this Saturday in the round of 16 of the Women’s World Cup.

Aitana Bonmati quickly opened the scoring (5th), but La Roja conceded the equalizer with an incredible CSC from Laia Codina (11th). Alba Redondo quickly put his team back in the right direction (17th) then Bonmati scored twice (36th) and Codina was forgiven by scoring in the right goal this time, from a corner (45th). In a quieter second period, Jenifer Hermoso took part in the celebration (70th).

Spain qualifies for the first time ever for the quarter-finals of the World Cup, and will face the winner of Netherlands-South Africa.
