Real Madrid star Thibaut Courtois is confident in the team’s ability to cope with the departure of Karim Benzema.

Former Los Blancos captain Karim Benzema has opted to accept the offer to leave Madrid at the end of the 2022/23 season and join Saudi Pro League champions Al Ittihad.

The decision has come as a shock in Madrid, with the club’s hierarchy expecting the French star to sign another one-year extension in the Spanish capital.

Benzema’s departure deprives the team of a very experienced figure, a goalscorer and a leader.

But Courtois was pragmatic about the situation, assuring the team were ready to step up and make sure the void left by Benzema didn’t derail his campaign.

“The others have to take a step forward after Karim leaves. We have great strikers like Vinicius, Rodrygo and now Joselu who brings something different. It’s a team problem and we have to solve it together.”according brand.

Courtois also reiterated his personal desire to win another Champions League with Los Blancos and to retire with the club at the end of his career.

Real Madrid will start their 2023/24 La Liga season at Athletic Club on August 12.
