Marcus Rashford has revealed his struggles after shoulder surgery and explained how he managed to relaunch his career at Manchester United.

The Manchester United striker has told Gary Neville how long it took him to regain his confidence and faith after shoulder surgery.

Rashford had one of the worst seasons of his career in the 2021-22 season as he struggled with the effects of the operation, but pulled off a stunning turnaround when Erik ten Hag took over the reins club, finishing last season with 30 goals in all competitions. The striker signed a bumper new contract with the Red Devils last month.

“My lowest point was the period after the shoulder operation. I had never had any serious injuries requiring surgery. The operation itself went well. It was tough mentally because I knew physically I was better, but I didn’t have confidence.” Rashford told Neville on The Overlap, in partnership with Sky Bet. “I felt like I was stepping back (from the challenges) because I play on the left side and roll a lot, so I had to use my arm quite often. It took me six to seven months to feel like myself again.

The player also opened up about how his hard work in pre-season helped him get back to his best. “Last year, I had more free time, which allowed me to participate more in training camp. So I did two weeks in total. 10 days of working with the ball, running and indoors, then four days before pre-season to regain my speed”, did he declare.

“I had time to do everything I needed to do and I felt really good going into pre-season. I wanted to be in that position this season too, so it’s important for me to come here and work. I did a slightly shorter course this time, I only did eight days of continuous training.
