There was a time when FC Barcelona were linked with Neymar Junior every summer, with the Blaugrana looking for some extra quality for their attacking line.
Neymar is still linked to FC Barcelona, but it is now Paris Saint-Germain who are making proposals.
FC Barcelona are about to lose the player they initially recruited to replace Neymar in the person of Ousmane Dembele, who, after finally showing some of his potential last season, will leave the club. However, according to Sport, PSG tried to include Neymar in the €50m deal, offering Barcelona the chance to sign the 30-year-old on loan.
But FC Barcelona did not show any interest. Neymar has reportedly been very interested in a transfer, with PSG looking for a way out for him – neither Chelsea nor Saudi Arabia have come closer than interest. Xavi Hernandez is categorical: Neymar, despite his qualities, is not the player the locker room needs to rebuild.
During an interview in June, Xavi was also asked about the possibility of a return for Neymar, who he played with for two years. His reaction betrayed his opinion on the matter and, although Neymar would arguably be the most talented player in the Barcelona squad, few today are arguing in favor of his return.
