Real Madrid legend Marcelo has apologized on social media after seriously injuring Lucian Sanchez while playing for Fluminense against Argentinos Juniors.
Marcelo was sent off 58 minutes into the game for his gesture as he tried to avoid the player by darting forward from the defence.
It was his seventh red card in a career that has seen him play more than 600 senior club and national appearances.
The Argentinos Juniors player has indeed bent his knee abnormally, which will certainly earn him an unavailability of several months.
Marcelo, who joined South America in January on a free transfer after spending 16 years in Europe with Real Madrid and Olympiakos, attempted a blistering counterattack that saw him dodge two players before attempting to beat Sanchez, who had the misfortune to see the Brazilian stepping on his completely outstretched leg.
Marcelo immediately interrupted the game to help his opponent and broke down in tears when he saw the result of the tackle was more serious than he had initially imagined.

Marcelo’s apology
He quickly took to Twitter to apologize.
“I accidentally injured a teammate in the course of my professional activity”, did he declare. ” I wish you the best possible recovery, Luciano Sanchez. All the strength in the world! »
The Round of 16 encounter ended in a 1-1 draw, with Fluminense leveling late through Samuel Xavier after Alexis Martin Arias was sent off. The second leg will take place next week, with Marcelo understandably suspended after his red card.
