Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol is now a Manchester City player. And its acquisition will go down in history.

It’s done ! Manchester City has the player it has coveted since the start of the summer transfer window, in this case Josko Gvardiol. And to snatch this element from RB Leipzig, the Sky Blues had to break the bank.

Gvardiol overtakes Maguire

The deal was closed on Wednesday. The deal was completed after the English agreed to pay €90m for the Croatia international. This makes him the most expensive centre-back in history, wiping out Harry Maguire’s previous record.

Gvardiol has yet to pass his medical examination. If it is conclusive and all goes well in personal negotiations, he could be operational for the Community Shield match between City and Arsenal at Wembley on Sunday August 6.

A Frenchman to replace him in Leipzig

Gvardiol is just the English champions’ second summer signing. Previously, they paid €30m to snatch Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea. A 100% Croatian recruitment for the moment.

Note that to replace Gvardiol, Leipzig plans to fetch Lyonnais Castello Lukeba. The signature of the latter is in very good progress. The Germans plan to spend 40 million euros on his services.
