Xavi lost his smile. A year ago, the Spanish technician was in heaven after convincing Ousmane Dembélé to continue the adventure at FC Barcelona. At the end of the contract, the Frenchman had agreed to stay, he who has always been very appreciated by his coach. But he had however set certain conditions and included with his agent a very advantageous clause allowing clubs to enlist him for 50 million euros before August 1, 2023.

In the know, PSG, who wanted the player for a long time, went on the offensive as they had with Neymar in 2017. And the French champions convinced Dembouz, who signified his wish to sign in Paris as revealed from Friday on our site exclusively. Despite all his attempts to convince him, Xavi could only accept his decision. This Wednesday, after the friendly match against AC Milan (1-0 victory), the Iberian coach spoke about this issue. His words are echoed by Sport.

Xavi is disappointed

“He told us he wanted to leave, that he had a proposal from PSG. It’s a personal decision, I feel bad because we took good care of him, but he has this proposal and that’s why I didn’t play him. It is the law of the market, we cannot compete with this proposal, it is beyond our reach, and I wish him all the happiness in the world because he has given us a lot.

He added very bitterly: “a little disappointed, yes, but he told us that he had spoken with Luis Enrique and with Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and that there was no way to convince him.” Xavi therefore confirms that Dembouz, who was ruled out for the friendly match, will leave Barça very soon to join Paris Saint-Germain. All that remains is to wait for the final details to be settled and the residents of the Parc des Princes will be able to welcome a new recruit.
