Jurgen Klopp hasn’t completely ruled out a Liverpool operation for Kylian Mbappé, but he admitted he would be surprised if such a proposal materializes.
Mbappé’s future is the subject of intense speculation at the moment, after it emerged he will not sign a contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain, which would make him a free agent in 12 month. Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal have submitted a staggering €300m offer for the Frenchman, despite Real Madrid top of the list of European clubs interested in him. Chelsea and Liverpool have also been named, but the Reds manager believes such a transfer is extremely unlikely, but not impossible.
“We laugh about it. I can say that I think he is a very good player, but the financial conditions do not suit us at all. I wouldn’t want to spoil the story now, but as far as I know there’s nothing to be done”Klopp told the media at a press conference.
” But it’s possible that someone else at the club is up to something and wants to surprise me, but that has never happened since I’ve been here, which is eight years. It would be the first time.
Realistically, Al-Hilal could be the only club able to meet PSG’s financial demands for Mbappé this summer, although the 24-year-old is not keen on the prospect of a move to Saudi Arabia. It’s widely believed that he wants to join Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2024 but PSG are determined to receive some cash for him now.
