Dembele, the big threat

FC Barcelona promises “war” to Paris Saint-Germain in the event of the transfer of Ousmane Dembélé.

It is “war” that is in sight. This term is used by Sport and Mundo Deportivo, the two main Catalan sports dailies, to refer to the soap opera Ousmane Dembélé.

The transfer of the French striker to Paris Saint-Germain would be very badly experienced at FC Barcelona. Blaugrana leaders are doing everything they can to stop him. They refused PSG’s request to be able to negotiate directly with the player. But as the 2018 world champion has a release clause of 50 million, which can be activated until Monday, July 31, Barça has no hand in this matter at all.

The decision will be up to Ousmane Dembélé. The Spanish champions are negotiating with their winger for a contract extension, but there would be 6 or 7 million euros difference between their positions, for the annual salary of the former Rennais. And as Barça is currently very limited financially, this opens the door for PSG to position itself.

Mundo Deportivo, however, promises a Catalan response by assuring that Barça, in retaliation, will do everything to ensure that PSG respects the rules of financial fair play. An investigation by UEFA will be required. But the capital club are used to these attacks from Spain, whether they come from Barcelona or La Liga president Javier Tebas.
