Monaco defender Axel Disasi is close to joining Chelsea, the two clubs having agreed on a fee of around 45 million euros

The 25-year-old, who will likely be used as a right centre-back, will bolster a defense that conceded 47 goals last season.

His signature is all the more important as Wesley Fofana will be out for several months with an anterior cruciate ligament injury. The arrival of Disasi, who was also coveted by Newcastle and Manchester United this summer, will help to alleviate the consequences of this injury somewhat. According to The Athletic, a tentative deal worth £38m (€45m) has been agreed and Chelsea have taken a big step towards securing his signature.

Disasi will be one of many new faces arriving at Stamford Bridge this summer as Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure in west London begins with some serious spending. As well as the return of promising players like Levi Colwill and Malo Gusto, the Blues have made three permanent signings, including the £53m transfer of Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig.

Disasi’s transfer fee has been set but the deal is not yet done. The 25-year-old will now try to strike a deal with Chelsea, who are keen to bring him into the first team ahead of the Premier League opener against Liverpool.
