Jürgen Klopp, the Liverpool coach, has made a big announcement about his future on the Mersey club bench.

While officiating as Liverpool coach since 2015, Jürgen Klopp has expressed his desire to reach the end of his contract with the Reds. During an interview with German journalist Matthias Hielscher, the Liverpool playing master spoke of his wish to take a sabbatical year, but also his retirement from coaching.

“I have a contract with Liverpool until 2026 and I want to fulfill it and then take a year off, so declared Klopp. It might be the end, but who knows how I’ll feel after a year? That’s why I leave the door open. I would love to travel, not just be pushed in a wheelchair or walk with a cane. I can watch football from anywhere. That’s why I won’t do this job forever,” thus confided the German manager.

After a stormy 2022-23 financial year, the residents of Anfield had to settle for a fifth place in the Premier League standings, synonymous with qualification for the Europa League. To overcome the difficulties encountered last season, the second most successful club in England has already undertaken a renewal within its workforce. In addition to the departures of Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, the 2019 European champion recorded the arrivals of Dominik Szoboszlai (Leipzig) and Alexis Mac Allister (Brighton).
