As we revealed to you exclusively on Friday, Paris Saint-Germain went on the offensive for the signing of Ousmane Dembélé. According to our information, the 26-year-old will indeed sign with PSG this summer. A contractual agreement has been reached between the Ile-de-France club and the Frenchman, around a 5-year lease. The medical examination should take place in Los Angeles, while PSG will activate the release clause of Dembélé fixed at 50 million euros until July 31, which had been negotiated last summer, at the time of the extension in extremis from the former Rennais to FC Barcelona.
According to information from the Spanish daily SPORT, the Catalan management was already very concerned by this file as early as June and the new sporting director Deco had already warned that renewing Ousmane Dembélé’s contract appeared to be an absolute priority to avoid foreign temptations due to his weak release clause of €50 million until July 31. But Deco couldn’t attend the meeting as he was in Turkey negotiating the signing of Arda Guler, who ended up signing for Real Madrid.
The Blaugrana want to keep him!
But now, with the approach of the official resumption of the championships, concerns are beginning to invade the offices of FC Barcelona who do not want to lose Ousmane Dembélé. Nevertheless, according to the indiscretions of the Mundo Deportivo, some people at the club want to trust the Frenchman who has reportedly always shown his desire to continue at Barcelona since day one. This is the message that the player himself has always conveyed both to the technical staff and to the sports management. And also of his agent, who met with Barcelona to advance a renewal. But during the negotiations, there were still important differences on the economic level.
As they think within the Catalan club, it could be a negotiation tactic for the contract extension of the 2018 World Champion. On the side of the technical staff, the concern is less severe than in the offices. Barça coach Xavi continues to see Dembélé as a fundamental piece in his idea of the game. Xavi Hernandez is fully confident that the Frenchman will continue in the team, as he would be very comfortable at Barcelona and the relationship with his trainer is very good.
