After a season at Besiktas, Moroccan international Romain Saïss has decided to join Al-Sadd (Qatar).
New change of scenery for Romain Saïss. A year after his arrival from Wolverhampton, the Moroccan international left Besiktas, where he was at odds with his coach Şenol Güneş. The former Angers player is now heading to Qatar, having signed a two-year contract with the Al-Sadd club.

The player justified his decision with Foot Mercato. “It’s a thoughtful choice. I weighed the pros and cons. Today, I wanted to give a new twist to my career by deciding with my family, explains Romain Saïss. This is the best possible solution. I already know what people are going to say, that I’m coming on pre-retirement. It is not the case at all. I still have the optics of playing CAN and a World Cup in 2026. I would be 36 years old. I have always made choices in relation to my selection. I am the most capped of the team, I am captain. I know what I have to do and I don’t wait to be told what I have to do to stay competitive. We are not going to lie to each other, Qatar is not the Premier League. But I am 33 years old, I know myself well enough and I know what I have to do for my good and that of the selection. This is my priority. »
