At PSG, free passes are really over

Unlike his predecessors, Luis Enrique would be able to put an end to the ‘player dictatorship’ at PSG.

For many years, successive coaches at Paris Saint-Germain have faced the same problem: the status of so-called “untouchable” players. Luis Enrique, inducted at the beginning of the month, could finally put an end to the privileges granted to certain stars of the workforce.

For Daniel Riolo, the Spanish technician seems capable of accomplishing this important shift. “The story of the incumbents and putting everything back together, we hadn’t heard that yet. The coaches, and there have been some very good ones who have come in recent years, all have come and settled in respecting the statutes far too much. The worst was for poor Galtier who had to put in three guys. For Pochettino, it was the same with Verratti, who he wanted to play higher,” recalled the sports journalist, Wednesday evening, on the airwaves of RMC.

Renowned for his often negative opinions on the club of the capital, Daniel Riolo now holds a completely different speech. “There, I believe in it. I am reasonably optimistic. I don’t just believe in Luis Enrique’s speech. I believe in it because he’s a good coach and he’s supported, that’s what’s important. The sporting director, who was unsuccessful last summer and his arrival at the club, also managed to win. It’s not easy, with the Doha galaxy spinning, with those who give their opinion,” emphasizes the editorialist. PSG will play their first official match of the season against FC Lorient on the weekend of August 13.
