Racing Club de Lens has finalized a very important operation for its future.
The soap opera has dragged on for a long time, but its outcome has been announced for a few days: Seko Fofana will no longer be a player at Racing Club de Lens next season. The Ivorian international midfielder took care to formalize his departure from Al-Nassr himself on Tuesday on his social networks. A way of assuming a strong choice with an audience with which he had forged an unbreakable bond.
From the height of his 28 years, Seko Fofana therefore leaves European football to respond to an XXL offer from Saudi Arabia. It thus confirms the capacity of the Gulf country to attract high-level players in the prime of life. On his Instagram account, Fofana posted a moving video in which he speaks directly to RC Lens supporters and employees to express his gratitude.
New prospects for the Lens transfer window
If the departure of Seko Fofana is no longer a surprise for the club’s followers, it would have been difficult to imagine six months ago, when the then captain of the Sang et Or announced his extension with great fanfare in the middle of field, in a jubilant Bollaert stadium.
This operation, coupled with the record sale of Loïs Openda to RB Leipzig, nevertheless allows Racing to project itself with ambition on the rest of this transfer window, with a very wide financial margin to build a competitive workforce. In total, Seko Fofana will have made 112 appearances with the yellow and red tunic, scoring 21 goals and distilling 12 assists. His athletic impact, his decisive goals in the final sprint and his leadership will remain in the memories of the Lensois public.
