Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappé returns to training on Monday, and negotiations over his future look set to start in earnest this week.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi had given the French international a maximum of 10 days to decide his future, either renewing his contract with PSG or leaving the club this summer on compensation. Bondy’s crack chose neither of these options and, according to Reportinformed his coach Luis Enrique of his decision, telling him that he wanted to stay at the club this season.
PSG are determined not to lose Mbappé for free, however, and have scheduled a meeting with the player’s mother and agent, Fayza Lamari, in the coming days.
If, as seems to be the case, Mbappé is only interested in a move to Real Madrid, PSG are somewhat powerless to stop him. Mbappé can join Los Blancos for free next summer, while a deal to bring the Frenchman to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer will cost both sides more money than the alternative.
Both sides run a small risk that the other side decides not to make a deal next season, but that seems highly unlikely. Mbappé has all the leverage available, while PSG are in a relatively weak position to achieve any of the desired results.
