FC Barcelona’s flagship recruit this summer, İlkay Gündoğan (32) was presented to the press on Monday. The German midfielder has decided to join the Catalan club, despite many contract offers around the world. A choice hailed by Joan Laporta, the president of FC Barcelona, who wanted to thank Gündoğan for having joined his club and for having “preferred the prestige and history of FC Barcelona to the other proposals”.
“It is an honor for us that you have decided to play for our club. You are an experienced player, with great success at your former club and we hope it will be the same here. We are more than happy that you came to Barca. You made an effort and we appreciate it. Winning is very important here, but it’s also about being the best, with a recognized style of football. You know it well, you come from Manchester City, where the people who were here work. We defend this style of football, but we want to be the best and the first. We are making a good economic proposal, but not the best”assured the Catalan president.
