A former great Inter player has made very critical comments about Romelu Lukaku.
Walter Zenga, one of Inter Milan’s icons, has slammed Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku. He said he was surprised that a player could behave the way he did, even if he was not fooled by the particularities of the world of football.
“Lukaku? A huge disappointment”
The ex-Italy goalkeeper is furious with the Belgian because his agents allegedly held talks with Juventus and AC Milan as Inter tried to reach an agreement with Chelsea for his permanent transfer to San Siro. In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, he took out the sulfateuse: “When I met him, he seemed to me to be someone else: a disappointment therefore. For what he said, and in a very sincere interview: ‘Never at Juve’: ‘Never at Juve’. And for what (Beppe) Marotta and (Piero) Ausilio have done for him”.
The World 90 hero believes that the Belgian center-forward lacked class in his behavior: “I put myself in their shoes: days and days of negotiations with Chelsea to discover that in the meantime Lukaku or anyone else has spoken to Milan and Juve; to learn from Chelsea that there is an offer from Juve. It’s just a waste of time.”
Finally, Zenga said he was convinced that Inter will fully recover from Lukaku’s departure. “Is that called the transfer market? For heaven’s sake, not to this extent…. How many champions have gone through Inter, left, but Inter have always continued in the same way? Let him go”.
