After recruiting Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez this summer, FC Barcelona show no signs of slowing down in the transfer market, with three more arrivals planned.
But what about the Ousmane Dembélé case? The Frenchman has been in great form since the arrival of Xavi Hernandez in charge of the team, and he played an important role in winning the La Liga title last season.
However, Dembele’s current contract expires next summer which means he can sign a pre-contract with a new club in January. FC Barcelona is ready to do anything not to lose him and negotiations are underway for a new lease, as confirmed by Joan Laporta.
“Dembélé is a player very much loved by everyone at the club. It has representatives who are difficult to negotiate. We are in the process of negotiating and we hope he will continue to do so. Dembélé is delighted, he wants to continue and this is our great chance”.
A new contract?
Laporta also addressed reports that Paris Saint-Germain are looking to sign Dembele to replace Kylian Mbappé, who has been heavily linked with an exit from the French champions. “Dembele as a replacement for Mbappé? We had that fear last year and it didn’t happen. Dembélé wants to continue at Barça and I think he is not in favor of leaving.
The French winger has certainly raised the bar at Barcelona over the past 18 months, and both sides hope to reach an agreement on a new contract in the coming weeks.
