RC Lens will have to part with their most valuable asset, Belgian striker Loïs Openda.
Lois Openda and RC Lens, it’s over. As one might expect, following the exceptional season he has just had with the Sang Et Or, the Belgian striker has been able to bounce back to a larger club. He has just joined the German formation of RB Leipzig.
Openda will discover the Bundesliga
The flagship club of the Red Bull brand paid a whopping €36 million for Openda. This is the most expensive acquisition in its history. This says a lot about the willingness of local leaders to acquire the player’s services.
Openda leaves Lens with the feeling of accomplishment, since he was one of the great architects of the magnificent course of the Artésiens in Ligue 1 (2e in the ranking). He even broke Roger Boli’s goalscoring record, which dated back to 1994. However, the way he tried to force his departure did not appeal to Lensois supporters any more. “I didn’t disrespect anyone,” defended the person concerned.
Openda aren’t the only major player Lens are forced to part ways with this summer. The vice-champion of France should also see his attacking midfielder Seko Fofana leave. The Ivorian is expected in Saudi Arabia. Here too, the RCL should recover a good sum of money in exchange. Enough to afford quality replacements and be ready for the new season.
