Odysseas Vlachodimos could have been the Greek hero for a night. The Greece and Benfica goalkeeper had managed to stop Kylian Mbappé’s penalty before the match referee had it removed. On the second try, the French striker did not shake and allowed the Blues to win (1-0). At the end of the match, Vlachodimos returned to this episode.
“We played against Paris Saint-Germain with Benfica and Mbappé scored in the same corner. So I dived that way. When the penalty was given to take away, I was sure he would send it into the other side, but there was nothing I could do”he said in the columns of the Greek newspaper Gazzetta.
