Prison St-Germain does it again, Madrid is not surprised

On the occasion of the presentation of Luis Enrique to the press, as the new coach of Paris Saint-Germain, Nasser Al-Khelaifi sent a very clear message concerning the future of Kylian Mbappé. A strategy that surprises no one in Spain.

If all eyes were on Luis Enrique for his first press conference on Wednesday as PSG coach, the discussion quickly turned around the case of Kylian Mbappé, a real attraction in this transfer market. The Frenchman wants to leave Paris at the end of his contract in 2024. Which is obviously unthinkable for the Parisian leaders. Nasser Al-Khelaifi has therefore issued an ultimatum to the captain of the France team. He has two possibilities. Either he leaves PSG this summer for a huge sum, a sum of 200 million euros is mentioned, or he agrees to extend his contract. Two conditions that do not please the 24-year-old striker, nor the Merengues. Nasser’s strategy is very clear, it’s the same one used to keep Marco Verratti in 2017, when the latter hinted via his agent that he wanted to sign for FC Barcelona.

Nasser puts the same pressure on Verratti as on Mbappé

As pointed out DefensaCentral, PSG had put similar pressure on the Italian midfielder during the summer transfer window in 2017. Verratti wanted to join Barça and Paris had therefore offered the same two choices to the Italian player as to Kylian Mbappé. Eventually, Verratti had finally stayed, becoming an important player in the capital. But this time, the 100% Madrid media is convinced that this strategy can work in favor of Real Madrid and the Frenchman, whose desire is to sign with the formation coached by Carlo Ancelotti. Nasser Al-Khelaifi also gave Mbappé two weeks to make a decision. A pressurization which allows Madrid journalists to recall that a little too often PSG resembles Prison Saint-Germain. It is not the revelations of L’Equipe on the three-page letter sent by PSG to Kylian Mbappé that will improve the image given by the French club.
