With the imminent arrival of Geoffrey Kondogbia, some midfielders could leave Olympique de Marseille this summer. This is particularly the case of vice-captain Valentin Rongier and Mattéo Guendouzi, who will not be retained in the event of satisfactory offers.

Olympique de Marseille has its first summer recruit. In the next few hours, the resident of the Vélodrome should formalize the signing of Geoffrey Kondogbia. An agreement has been reached with Atlético Madrid for a transfer of around seven million euros excluding bonuses. It will be a significant investment for the Marseille club, especially if we take into account the income of the former Monegasque who will receive between 500,000 and 600,000 euros per month. At this level of remuneration, Geoffrey Kondogbia will be one of the best paid Marseillais.

Suffice to say that Olympique de Marseille does not make so many efforts to install him on the bench of substitutes. Especially since the Central African international knows the new coach Marcelino well, whom he had worked with at FC Valence between 2017 and 2019. The Spaniard intends to use him in his usual 4-4-2 alongside Jordan Veretout. The other circles are therefore warned. Back from loan from Sevilla FC, Pape Gueye will again be pushed out. As for Mattéo Guendouzi and Valentin Rongier, a departure is also considered.

Rongier is no longer untouchable

The tricolor international, long announced leaving, had publicly considered staying according to the preferences of the new coach. But according to L’Equipe, chairman Pablo Longoria still intends to sell him and is waiting for West Ham to come forward after Declan Rice’s likely departure to Arsenal. England also represents one of the possible destinations for Valentin Rongier, who will not be retained in the event of an interesting offer, and who does not close the door to a transfer. The vice-captain and former executive of Igor Tudor is proof that the cards are completely redistributed after the resignation of the Croatian.
