Seventh in Ligue 1 at the end of the 2022/2023 financial year, Olympique Lyonnais has once again completely missed its season. The Rhone club hopes to find comfort in Ligue 2.
If the OL training center is renowned for being one of the best in France, this did not prevent the reserve from going down to National 3. A surprising relegation which also impacts Les Gones. Most of the academy’s promising players move up to the first team very quickly, as has been the case in recent seasons with Bradley Barcola, Saël Kumbedi and Castello Lukeba who have quickly established themselves in the professional squad. However, OL regrets not having a friendly club in Ligue 2 to be able to lend players there or even recruit other nuggets. In an interview with the Olympique-et-Lyonnais site, Vincent Ponsot mentioned the possibility in the more or less near future of having an affiliated club in Ligue 2.

“The descent of La Duchère in National 3 is not really great news for us. I don’t really believe in the subsidiary club or having the reserve in Ligue 2 because you have to have a lot of players, it’s a very high cost. If we had a “friendly” club in Ligue 2 to lend it 2 or 3 very good players. The loans to Bourg, a few seasons ago, had worked very well. It increases the perspective, but I am convinced that beyond the aspects of the shareholders, we would really need to have a club in the region which is in Ligue 2 “ said the director of football in Lyon. OL would therefore like to have relations with a Ligue 2 club to do business in the transfer window. From now on, the Rhone club will however be able to facilitate certain transfers with the clubs which belong to John Textor such as Botafogo, Crystal Palace or Molenbeek.
