Social networks, and especially Twitter, give pride of place to haters. But sometimes the attacks go too far, and even much too far. The Professional Football League is using a tool to try to stop this hatred against Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.
Racism, threats, insults, athletes know that they must now weigh their words before expressing themselves on social networks in order to avoid a torrent of mud. But, sometimes the same goes for the authorities. So, to help regulate what can be, the LFP has been working for two years with a company in charge of avoiding excesses in real time that go beyond freedom of expression. This Monday, the services of Vincent Labrune announced that they had renewed the contract which allows the accounts of the LFP, Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 on all social networks to parry blows. We thus learn that out of 1.7 million comments made to the messages of the LFP, 4.1% are hateful.

” The Professional Football League, wishing to protect its online community and its competitions from toxic, hateful content and harassment, will continue its collaboration with Bodyguard.ai during the 2023-2024 season (…) Since April 2021, Bodyguard.ai protects the LFP’s Twitter platform, as well as the Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube accounts, totaling around 20 million followers. By collaborating with Bodyguard.ai, the LFP, which has made the fight against discrimination a fundamental element of its CSR strategy, has been able to put its values into action and better apply its zero-tolerance approach to all forms online abuse. Over the two years of the partnership, Bodyguard.ai moderated over 1.7 million comments for the LFP and identified 71,000 (or 4.1%) as hateful. For the 2022-2023 season, more than 34,000 hateful comments were detected and moderated. These include spam and fraudulent content that pollutes communities and hurts real fan interaction and engagement. “, specifies the LFP in a press release.
