Often in the shadows, Valentin Rongier is not considered one of the biggest market values at Olympique de Marseille. The midfielder, however, has a good rating on the transfer market. He who could be transferred because of the choices of the new coach Marcelino.

When we talk about the most coveted Marseillais, the name of Valentin Rongier very rarely appears. Those of Alexis Sanchez, Mattéo Guendouzi or Leonardo Balerdi are more cited in the mercato rumors of Olympique de Marseille. The former FC Nantes player is however coming out of an excellent season on an individual level. The midfielder, often in the shadows, and sometimes forced to help out in defense, was one of the pillars of former coach Igor Tudor who loved his activity and his intensity in midfield.

We must believe that his performances have not gone completely unnoticed abroad since European clubs have taken a look. According to the regional daily La Provence, Bayer Leverkusen and Brighton, respectively coached by Xabi Alonso and Roberto De Zerbi, have inquired about Valentin Rongier. The German club finally set its sights on Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka, while the Premier League resident recruited Mahmoud Dahoud, free after his move to Borussia Dortmund.

Ronnier could lose his place

But the two teams could well come back to the charge for the Marseillais. Especially since the Olympian vice-captain will not necessarily be retained. Indeed, Valentin Rongier risks undergoing a change of coach at the Marseille club. The newspaper L’Equipe indicated this week that the new coach Marcelino hoped to associate Jordan Veretout with his possible recruit Geoffrey Kondogbia in the middle of his 4-4-2. There would therefore be no place for the Marseille manager in the eleven of the Spanish coach. This could encourage President Pablo Longoria to transfer him in the event of an interesting offer.
