OM‍: Marcelino in Gallardo’s shadow just in case

Everything suggests that Marcelo Gallardo should become OM coach in the coming days. But, if the Argentinian is lacking for the job, the Spaniard Marcelino is an alternative favored by Pablo Longoria.

Slowly but surely, OM are moving towards the appointment of Marcelo Gallardo as successor to Igor Tudor on the bench. The Argentinian is in negotiations with the Marseille management, being very demanding in terms of his personal demands. If the file failed to be concluded, another coach would have to be found to lead OM. True to his habit of anticipating setbacks, Pablo Longoria already has his plan B and even his plan C. Besides Gallardo, LOSC coach Paulo Fonseca caught the eye of Pablo Longoria. Nevertheless, it will be very difficult to steal it from the northern club. Plan C is easier to implement.

Marcelino, spare tire almost guaranteed for OM

This third man is called Marcelino according to Foot Mercato. The Spaniard has been without a club since leaving Athletic Bilbao in May 2022. He has a strong CV in his home country, having notably coached Valencia. Winner of the 2019 King’s Cup with the Valencian club, he worked alongside Pablo Longoria on this occasion as technical director. The two men like and know each other well.

Marcelino has the advantage of being free and seems almost the easiest technician to attract to the Canebière. However, the priority is and remains Marcelo Gallardo. OM are on the right track to finalize their recruitment as a new coach for the 2023-2024 season. Despite his links to Pablo Longoria, it would take a miracle for Marcelino to get the job. It will remain at the dock unless the situation turns around. A scenario always possible when we talk about football, the transfer window and OM.
