This season, Vinicius Junior has once again been the victim of racism in a stadium, in Valencia. The Real Madrid player protested against the bodies that manage football and their lack of reaction. Gianni Infantino decided to act.

On May 21, during the La Liga match between Valencia and Real Madrid, Vinicus Junior was the victim of racism. Since the Brazilian moved to Spain, it’s a frequent problem he has to deal with. The 22-year-old striker has already asked La Liga president Javier Tebas several times to take my stricter measures to stop racist acts in the Spanish league. In vain. Gianni Infantino has taken the decision to set up a special FIFA anti-racism committee made up of players who will be able to suggest heavier penalties for discriminatory behavior in football. The FIFA President spoke in an interview with the Reuters newspaper about this group which will be led by Vinicius Junior and the implementation of future sanctions applicable in all championships.

Gianni Infantino empowers Vinicius

“There will be no more football with racism in it. Games should be stopped immediately when this happens. I asked Vinicius to lead this group of players who will introduce stricter punishments against racism which will later be implemented by all football authorities around the world. We need to hear from players and what they need to work in a safer environment. We are very serious about this. We will implement very brutal and harsh punishments to end the problem of racism in football once and for all. We can no longer tolerate racism. As FIFA President, I think I needed to talk to Vinicius about this personally. (…) An act of racism is a criminal act. From now on, FIFA will also take legal action with the local authorities, we will join the complaints lodged in the local courts. » said the Swiss-Italian leader about the problem of racism in football. Vinicius Junior will thus have the opportunity to lead this group and propose sanctions to eradicate the scourge that still affects the world of football too much.
