Coming on in the second half against Manchester City, Romelu Lukaku missed an incredible chance that would have sent Inter into extra time. For the Belgian striker, it was the start of a wave of hatred.
Social media went up in flames on Saturday night when Romelu Lukaku came on for Edin Dzeko on the hour mark, with the Belgian striker looking set to unlock the Champions League final. But like his 2022 World Cup with Belgium, the Inter striker missed the inevitable. And especially in a seemingly easy duel against the Manchester City goalkeeper in the last minutes of the final on an impeccable service from Gosens. Add to that the fact that the Milan striker unwittingly fended off a Dimarco header that could deceive Ederson, and you have an explosive cocktail. Because if some have attacked the player brutally, blaming him for his failures, others have totally crossed all the limits by multiplying racist messages. A flood of hatred that unfortunately seems endless on social networks.
Lukaku doesn’t get the same treatment as Haaland

On his Instagram account, Romelu Lukaku saw dozens of racists landing, who posted messages with monkey emojis and insults punishable by law. Faced with this abusive situation, supporters however recalled that in this final, a player like Erling Haaland had been completely transparent and that the Norwegian star had not suffered any racist insults on the networks. To date, UEFA has not reacted to this flood of comments which fell on Lukaku, who will have to recover both from this failed final, but also from the consequences of the latter. All this while his future is completely unclear, since the Belgian striker should return to Chelsea.
