Marcelo Gallardo (free) and Paulo Fonseca (LOSC) emerge as two favorites to succeed Igor Tudor at OM.

A week after the announcement of the departure of Igor Tudor, vagueness still reigns at Olympique de Marseille as to the identity of the future coach. Like Paris Saint-Germain, the Marseille club is studying several files before deciding and starting its summer transfer window. To date, a dozen names have already filtered to occupy the OM bench. But in the middle of the week, two coaches seem to be establishing themselves as the two favorites of President Pablo Longoria.

The first is none other than Marcelo Gallardo, free after eight years on the bench of River Plate, where he won everything. The Argentinian wants to try his luck in Europe and Marseille appreciates his profile to the point of having placed him at the top of his shortlist, according to information from the Parisian. The Ile-de-France daily reveals that OM also appreciate Vincenzo Italiano, author of a magnificent season with Fiorentina. But the Fio coach is a priority for Napoli, which makes the case much more complex all of a sudden. The other coach very well placed to succeed Igor Tudor currently officiates in Ligue 1. It is… Paulo Fonseca, the current manager of Lille.

Gallardo targeted, Fonseca also on the shortlist

According to insider account @MarwanBelkacem, the Portuguese coach is a real lead currently being dug by Pablo Longoria and Javier Ribalta. “Olympique de Marseille wants to be fixed this week in the event of signing the Portuguese technician. OM are ready to negotiate with LOSC to buy out the remaining term of their contract. He figures very high in the Olympian targets. Interest confirmed again yesterday on the side of the Portuguese coach who is also courted in England. The advantage of OM could be the fact that he would not be at the top of the shortlist of his courtiers” he posted on his Twitter account.

Suffice to say that the noose is tightening among the possible coaches of Olympique de Marseille and that Paulo Fonseca and Marcelo Gallardo really seem to emerge as two favorites. But everything is possible and the possibility of seeing a trainer whose name has not even been mentioned yet remains possible according to Le Parisien. It is therefore not impossible that Pablo Longoria reserves a surprise for OM supporters, as he had done by appointing Igor Tudor to succeed Jorge Sampaoli when the name of the Croatian had hardly filtered on the contrary by example of that of Roberto De Zerbi, who seemed to be the club’s priority at the time.
