In search of a new coach for next season, given that Igor Tudor announced his departure on Thursday after only a year on the sidelines of OM, Pablo Longoria has two tracks in mind, including a surprising one.
Since Pablo Longoria has taken over the presidency of the Marseille club, a certain instability has settled around the position of coach. After an interlude from Nasser Larguet, Jorge Sampaoli picked up the Marseille team in March 2021 to let go in July 2022, just before training resumed. Since that date, Igor Tudor has taken over with more or less success, but the Croatian coach will also pack his bags after only one season at the head of Marseille. This therefore means that OM is now actively looking to find a new coach quickly, just to prepare well for the 2023-2024 financial year, which will start with a bang with the Champions League play-offs. If Pablo Longoria waits for the championship to end to make his choices, the Spanish leader already has several names in mind for the succession of Tudor. While the names of Franck Haise or Marcelo Gallardo circulate around the Velodrome, two other tracks have Longoria’s preferences. Indeed, according to Get French Football News, Ange Postecoglou and Marcelino are OM’s main targets at the moment.

If the name of the Spanish coach does not surprise anyone knowing that Longoria and Marcelino worked together in Valencia in 2018-2019 when the first was sporting director of the second, the Postecoglou track is more surprising… or not. It must be said that the Australian coach is represented by Frank Trimboli of the CAA Sports agency, just like Longoria. Suffice to say that the rapprochement between the two men happened naturally. On the Celtic FC bench since 2021, the Greek has twice won the Scottish championship. What to convince all the Marseillais? Not so sure… But in any case, the choice of Longoria is not stopped while the name of Paulo Fonseca, currently in Lille, is also mentioned in Marseille. If the rumors are bound to be rife in the coming days, a decision could quickly be made to set a clear course for the resumption of next season.
