Pending a response from La Liga for its economic plan, FC Barcelona must also worry about the situation of Ousmane Dembélé. A clause in the Frenchman’s contract allows him to leave for a largely affordable amount, half of which his agent would recover.

The period so dreaded by FC Barcelona has begun. Not to mention the impossibility of recruiting, at least until La Liga has validated its economic plan, the Catalan club will now tremble at the thought of losing Ousmane Dembélé. You have to go back to last summer to understand the situation. The Frenchman found himself free after the end of his contract. And to avoid a definitive separation, Barça, with very limited financial means, had agreed to extend it under special conditions.

Ousmane Dembélé’s new contract, for a period of two years, contains a release clause of 100 million euros which increases to 50 million euros during the months of June and July 2023. Since Thursday, it is therefore possible to snatch the Blaugrana winger for this more than interesting amount! But the worst thing for Barça is that half of these 50 million euros, still according to the terms negotiated last summer, would go into the pocket of the player’s agent Moussa Sissoko! Suffice to say that FC Barcelona would be the big loser both sportingly and financially.

Barça tries to react

One can easily imagine that the management will not be serene until August 1st arrives. The recent champion of Spain does not however have to worry about this file. Totally fulfilled in Barcelona, Ousmane Dembélé absolutely does not envisage a departure this summer. The French international has the full confidence of his coach Xavi who, in the event of sacrifices to be made, has ruled out the possibility of letting his dribbler slip away. Despite everything, clubs that may be interested can always try their luck, while Barça tries to extend the former Rennais until 2027, and to cancel this famous clause.
