The Girondins de Bordeaux lost everything in one week. And Friday night’s incident against Rodez could even weigh down the club’s next season with the scapular in Ligue 2.
A week after a catastrophic defeat at Annecy, Bordeaux knew they had to hope for a misstep from Metz or Le Havre, and beat Rodez to succeed in moving up to Ligue 1. So when Lucas Buades opened the scoring for the visitors after 23 minutes of play, a Girondin supporter freaked out and managed to enter the field to attack the Rodez player. A totally unacceptable scene which caused the interruption, then the total stoppage of the match. Quickly arrested, the supporter in question turned out to be a long-time member of the Ultramarines, L’Equipe even stating that he had a role within the office of the main association of Bordeaux supporters. If Gérard Lopez made it known that the club would quickly file a complaint against this Girondin fan, on the side of the Ultramarines we wanted to speak up to express their desolation.

Speaking in Sud-Ouest, Laurent Perpigna, one of the association’s leaders, did not beat around the bush following this serious incident. ” We have been fighting for years to educate and prevent this kind of incident and today someone has ruined everything. Never again. The only thing we have to do now is apologize. We will try to remain dignified in these moments. We struggled to avoid that for years, and unfortunately it happened in the most important game. I would like to renew my apologies to the whole gallery and to all the supporters. We are all guilty, all responsible “, confided Laurent Perpigna. It is now Monday evening that the Disciplinary Committee of the Professional Football League will look into this incident. On the side of Bordeaux, some want to be convinced that the club could finish this meeting and why not achieve the feat of going up to Ligue 1. It is not certain that the story will end as well to read the press release from the Minister of Sports and it is one more season in Ligue 2 which seems to be waiting for the Girondins.
