Karim Benzema is at the heart of the first soap opera of the summer transfer window, while Saudi Arabia dreams of snatching him from Real Madrid.

Ballon d’Or six months ago, Karim Benzema is one of the most courted players on the planet. The French international has been the subject of an astronomical offer from Saudi Arabia, which offered him a two-year contract and a salary of 100 million euros net per year. A few days ago, the trend was for Karim Benzema to leave for Saudi Arabia, but everything changed on Thursday. KB9 publicly explained that “the internet was not the truth”, leaving the door wide open for Real Madrid.

Marca are adamant this Friday claiming that Karim Benzema “queda” at the Merengue. Karim Benzema’s hesitation is however real and is largely based on financial considerations, his salary at the 2022 Spanish champion no longer fully suiting him.

“He may stay for a reason. It’s like Sergio Ramos and the offer from China. We understand that he can leave and that he has the right to decide his future, but when he said that the internet was not the reality, it seemed like a step backwards to me. Not being able to transcribe this offer into something tangible gave him pause. Florentino’s phone didn’t ring and Benzema didn’t call. The offer was known, but when Benzema didn’t pass it on he knew it couldn’t happen.” explains the Cadena SAR journalist, Antonio Romero, before concluding.

A salary disagreement between Benzema and Real?

“Benzema has made two public appearances in the past six months. He was only able to say that he was going to stay in Madrid. The reality is that Benzema has an offer and is considering it. Benzema was renewed automatically due to the Ballon d’Or clause but Karim understood that his renewal was at a different price” details the journalist, for whom there is indeed a financial disagreement between Karim Benzema and Real Madrid around the extension of the Frenchman until 2024. Hence the hesitations of the native of Lyon about his future…
